Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic therapeutic approach where ketamine is incorporated alongside traditional psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent and meaningful breakthroughs. Under KAP, the psychotherapist focuses on the therapeutic aspects of treatment. This includes assessing eligibility, designing a personalized treatment plan, prescribing ketamine, and monitoring outcomes to ensure optimal results.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legally approved, safe, and effective medication for treating various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Known for its fast-acting antidepressant and mood-boosting properties, ketamine can start working within 1-2 hours after treatment. It functions by blocking NMDA receptors and activating AMPA receptors in the brain, which supports the formation of new neural connections and strengthens pathways related to mood and stress regulation. Ketamine has also been found to enhance neuroplasticity, promoting long-term symptom relief. It can be administered through different methods—such as intravenous (IV) infusions, intramuscular injections, nasal sprays, or sublingual lozenges.

What Does Ketamine Feel Like?

The effects of ketamine, often described as pleasant by patients, last about 45 minutes. These effects can lead to a sensation of feeling “disconnected” from the body, which helps create shifts in perspective that can feel expansive and insightful. During this time, motor and verbal abilities are limited, so patients remain lying down comfortably. After the effects diminish, the psychotherapist will guide you through a session to reflect on and process your experience. Even though it can sometimes be challenging to put the experience into words, many patients report gaining valuable and clear insights from it.

I went into KAP knowing that it can work. That it does work, and I was excited. I just knew that it was proven to work. The first day I was feeling very lethargic, and the second day, I woke up and said "I have my life back." I've been doing KAP for 1 year, and it has completely changed my outlook on life.
